![]() The Spindles were born from the minds of guitarist and vocalist Coalmine and drummer Dan Lindley during the summer of 2002. Freshly sprung from San Francisco Indie Rock trio Sterno Sound, they were looking forward to shifting gears from the power chord driven songs of their previous band into a more subtle, melody based song writing. They quickly recruited local bass talent Jamie Voss, and armed with fresh material recorded a self-titled EP at Sonoma County's famed Prairie Sun Recods. The addition of Henry Nagle on pedal-steel and electric guitars, and Sari Flowers (Pretty Face, The Adoration Machine) on backing vocals took The Spindles through the next several years. Two full length albums later, they have made a home and name for themselves in Northern California. Their fan base is ever-growing. They continue to influence local musicians and their scene, evident by the occasional covering of a Spindle fan favorite at the corner bar or taproom. In 2007, Dan Lindley reluctantly left the band for the betterment of family life, and was replaced by Jonathan Hughes (of Bonfire Madigan fame) whose mastery and creativity on the drums was able to add a polish to the Spindle sound. And finally, in 2008, Achilles Poloynis and Mark Philpott, on trombone and bass clarinet respectively, were added to the line up and opened up the door to an over-the-top musical experience that has pleased crowds in clubs and households up and down the West Coast.
